14 Months!

I seriously can't believe that it's already May and that another month has flown by. Bring on summertime!! April was fun, but a little hectic because daddy had to travel a lot for work. You made some big progress with your walking. You can now stand up independently (without pulling up on something) and can take up to 10-12 steps on your own. We even caught a little on camera (finally)!
You've also continued to improve your stellar climbing skills! I turn my back for 30 seconds and I find you in situations like these:
Yes, the bookshelf is bolted to the wall.
You can also shimmy yourself up to standing in your high chair and in carts (even when buckled in). (As I've mentioned before, baby-proof does not equal Jax-proof). I almost had a heart attack the first time this happened when we were shopping at Target. I turned around to put something in the cart and when I looked back you were turned around and standing on the seat with a huge smile on your face! I (on the other hand) was not very happy because you could have very easily fallen out! When I tried to make you sit back down a tantrum ensued... All subsequent shopping trips have been super quick or done solo.

According to my estimations, you are about 23.5 pounds and 32 inches tall. Your legs are getting soooo long! I'm still squeezing you into your 12-18 month clothes, but the sleeves and pant legs are definitely a little short. The 18-24 month clothes fit better lengthwise, but they're pretty baggy (oh, the problems of being tall and skinny). Your hair is also growing like crazy and I'm slowly coming to the realization that it will need to be cut sooner, rather than later. As much as I love all your curls in the back, the hair in the eyes is making you look like a little rag-a-muffin!
Over the past couple of months you have become so interactive! Everyday you're understanding more and more of what we say. You can point to your nose, eyes, hair, and teeth. You splash your hands up and down when we say "bath." You can find the "blue ball" in your playroom, as well as the letter s! You hold up one finger when we ask how old you are. You also clap, wave, kiss, hug, and high-five. You even point to your diaper and say "ugh" when you poop. You're a technology expert and have figured out how to play music on my iphone and talk to Siri all the time. We often do face time with daddy when he's traveling, so when he's at work you take my phone and scream "da-da" into it in hopes that he will appear on the screen. It's hilarious! You babble all the time, but it's hard to know how many words you're actually saying. Mostly, you just say the first sound of a word- you say sh for shoe, du for duck, etc... Daddy and I are very impressed and love showing off your "tricks" to our friends and family (although you usually don't perform on command).

Easter was on April 8 this year. I couldn't resist getting the glitter bunny ears out again. You tolerated them for about a minute before tearing them off. Luckily, I was able to snap a pic!
The Easter bunny brought you a climb and slide play castle, which you love! You figured out how to climb up the wall and the slide immediately and prefer to go down the slide head first...
You've also mastered the slide in you playroom:
We've been spending a lot of time outside- going for walks and playing at parks. You even took your first dip in a lake!
You and Chris had a great time splashing around, but you didn't know what to think about the sand. You kept wiping off your hands and feet on Chris (as you can see in the third picture). Thankfully, your friend didn't seem to mind... Since this was an impromptu "swim," mommy wasn't really prepared for a wet and sandy baby. We had no towel or change of clothes- ooops! I'll definitely have to keep those things on hand this summer- lesson learned! You went straight into the bath when we got home.
I'm so excited for summer. From the little tastes of it we've had this Spring, I think we're going to have a blast!

Happy 14 months, peanut!
Love, Mom
